IMPACT

The new parking lot was awarded for setting the international standard for green-building excellence with its certification in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). Its adherence to green design and practices is functionally efficient in its distribution of stormwater, and is aesthetically pleasing in its innovative design.

The Timken Company World Headquarters

As a key member of the Gensler’s design team, Environmental Design Group was responsible for landscape architecture, civil engineering and traffic engineering for the new $42 million, two-story office complex in Stark County, Ohio.

When the Timken Company expanded its facility to function as its world headquarters, it required expansion of its parking lot as well to accommodate a greater number of employees, and contracted Environmental Design Group to assist with its design. The 160,000 SF facility connects to the original facility near the AkronCanton airport. Development for the 900-car parking lot included steel yard enhancements, entry plazas and an expansive employee courtyard to accommodate the team of nearly 1,000 employees.

The project provided better stormwater management; preservation and restoration of habitat; installation of pedestrian trail, pedestrian entry plazas, arrival courts and exterior courtyard spaces; strategic design of terraced, multi-level parking area; and better facilitation of traffic into and out of the parking lot.
