We stand as a positive force, providing professional planning, environmental design and engineering services to shape, define, utilize, conserve and restore land and water resources. Our History

Overview

Founded in 1984, our name was chosen to express our intent to focus on environmental quality, preservation, and healing. Armed with a strong sense of stewardship, our professional services consulting firm fosters success by way of specific, yet integrated project teams in the disciplines of civil engineering, landscape architecture, planning, surveying, environmental sciences, transportation, and construction administration.

1980s

Having come of age during a time of environmental awakening and activism, our founders fostered a strong sense of stewardship. After a leveraged buyout of the former Snell Environmental Group (SEG) in 1984 by a group of its former employees, Environmental Design Group was founded. By the late 1980s, we were well known and respected for our environmental ethics and collaborative team approach to project development.

1990s

Our continuing evolution of project approach led us to align our practice more openly with a sustainable practices philosophy. The parks community embraced our approach, awarding us numerous signature projects and awards landing us in an LA article magazine in 1999.

2000s

We believe, and made the convincing argument, that preserving sensitive lands and open space as development assets can improve the bottom line and enrich the quality of communities in our region. How? By utilizing the existing, unique qualities of a project site to mark it as a special and desirable space, all while reducing construction costs through sustainable design practices.

2010s

As a full-service, multi-disciplinary firm, Environmental Design Group continued to assist Ohio communities to think differently. We peered into the future of disruption and innovation to anticipate disruptions to our systems and explore new advancements in technology. We collaborated with Ohio communities to be at the forefront of how to navigate, advance, and thrive under these new paradigms.

2020s

We continue to think differently about the future and how it will impact how we live, work, and raise our families. As we aim to be at the forefront of helping our clients navigate, advance, and thrive under new paradigms, we developed a Client Experience program that allows us to strengthen our communication and engagement process, creating real and lasting value for our employees, clients, and partners and communities.
