Summa Health Akron Campus West Tower
Environmental Design Group is responsible for the landscape architecture planning, design and construction documents for the $350-million, 300,000 square-foot patient tower on Summa’s Akron Campus
The patient tower, which will serve as the new main entrance to campus, was completed in spring 2019. The campus site design features a large central green that is framed with a low garden wall that sweeps around the central green to serve as a warm and inviting front door to the facility, while also serving as a wayfinding and orientation element for the campus. An arching entry drive defines the central green and leads visitors to the main entry plaza, which is adorned with decorative pavement and granite benches, intermixed with a simple landscape treatment. An outdoor café nestled within a bosque of trees and surrounded by landscaping provides a quiet place for staff and visitors.
