IMPACT

The Portage County Engineer now understands the probable causes and recommended safety countermeasures to reduce the severity and frequency of crashes at this intersection. The County will receive 90% funding for a roundabout. Total cost is $1.6 million at Old Forge Road and Mogadore Road.

Old Forge Road and Mogadore Road Safety Study and Funding Application

Environmental Design Group completed a Safety Study, a Highway Safety Improvement Program Full Application, and presented to ODOT to describe the conditions/findings and need for funding.

The Safety Study is intended to evaluate current conditions, assess the performance of past safety countermeasures, analyze current crash history and patterns, and determine the next safety countermeasure(s) to implement. A rural roundabout is predicted to be the most applicable and advantageous. According to model-based results, the proposed predicted crash frequency is reduced by the greatest amount and problematic behavior of drivers is best addressed through this countermeasure. Of the five studied countermeasures, the roundabout is the most time- and cost-intensive, but also the most effective.
