Lakewood, Ohio

IMPACT

This was an undersized and aging facility, and by providing this upgrade the City of Lakewood can better serve and protect the community and provide emergency personnel with upgraded equipment and technologies. The project also provides better vehicular circulation for visitors and staff.

Lakewood Fire Station

Environmental Design Group provided surveying services for the site topographic and boundary survey, as well as site civil design and landscape architecture services for design of the fire station addition and parking lot, along with traffic engineering services for relocation of the emergency signal.

Lakewood Fire Station #2 is located off Detroit Avenue near West Clifton Boulevard in Lakewood, Ohio. The project proposed a building addition to the existing fire station, expanding the truck apparatus area by two additional truck bays. To accommodate the additional truck bays, an additional concrete drive apron was installed to allow trucks access to Detroit Avenue. Due to site constraints, the truck bays were designed as head-out and backin access to Detroit Avenue. Additionally, an existing emergency signal was relocated to accommodate the new drive with all required traffic design practices taken into consideration.

An existing parking lot east of the fire station was also redesigned and expanded to accommodate the building addition, and to provide shared parking for the neighboring retail business. A landscaping design was provided in the parking lot and around the new building addition.
