IMPACT

Reconnecting the City with its lakefront through holistic design and multi-modal connectivity will be a driver for growth and prosperity for years to come and move Willowick into the echelon of premier lakefront destinations throughout the region.

Lakefront Connectivity + Downtown Redevelopment Plan

Environmental Design Group provided master planning, market analysis, traffic counts (Loukas Engineering), conceptual lakefront site design and multi-modal road diet planning for the corridor. Extensive public involvement, including transit agency coordination, stakeholder meetings and public open house meetings, was also conducted.

The City of Willowick is a 2.54-square-mile waterfront community along Lake Erie. Located 15 miles east of Downtown Cleveland, this suburban community is home to just over 14,000 people. The main commercial corridor, Lakeshore Boulevard, is a wide fourlane roadway with excess capacity. The City sought to introduce multi-modal travel opportunities and increase connectivity to public transit along the route. Additionally, the municipal service buildings and City Hall sat between Lakeshore Boulevard and the Lake Erie Shoreline. There was a strong desire to leverage the abundant public lakefront property on the site to foster the creation of a waterfront park and mixed-use development.
