IMPACT

It was important for the Conservancy to identify the regional context and connectivity of the proposed Visitor Center site in relation to the convergence of the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail, Buckeye Trail, the Cuyahoga River, and Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad, along with understanding the relationship of nearby Boston Mills Ski Area and two road networks that provide an important vehicular connection to the area.

Cuyahoga Valley National Park Central Visitor Center

With an estimated 2.3 million visitors last year, Cuyahoga Valley National Park is one of the top 10 most visited national parks. But it is missing a key element that visitors expect, seek out, and need – a Visitor Center. Using Cuyahoga County GIS topographic and boundary mapping, trail maps, road maps, aerial photography, and other sources, the data was collected and assembled into an easy to understand context map.

Environmental Design Group was retained to collect site data and assemble site base mapping for the new Cuyahoga Valley National Park Central Visitor Center located in historic Boston Township, Ohio. Our team, in association with Peninsula Architects, was awarded the design services for the new Visitor Center and engaged the Conservancy in the project kickoff with due diligence, public involvement, schematic design, detailed design, and construction cost estimating.
