Smart2 Network

The SMART2 Network project right-sizes Youngstown’s transportation network to meet the needs of its population, traffic requirements, and economic development opportunities.

The project integrates technology into a modern, efficient, multi-modal transportation system to provide for autonomous and connected vehicles through the installation of a dedicated shuttle line, fiber optic conduit, and ancillary traffic control and data gathering devices.

Environmental Design Group provided complete LPA construction and administration services for this project, which was constructed in three phases using several different delivery methods including conventional, design-bid-build, and design-build. Providing upgrades and reconstruction of eight main transportation corridors in the downtown core, improvements include new pavement buildup, new drainage infrastructure, city-wide traffic signal improvements and upgrades, transit bus station installations with updated technology, new sidewalks and amenities for pedestrians and cyclists, and landscaping.
