Escape the Indoors – 3 Places to Celebrate Summer

Written by: Annalise Maniscalco, Marketing Coordinator

You may be mid-binge of your latest Netflix obsession, we understand, but it’s Great Outdoors Month, so get out there! For many of us, our fondest memories are rooted in telling stories around a smoky campfire, escaping to the solitude of hours spent fishing on a lake and spending countless summer days under a sunlit sky with friends and family.

With more than 70 state parks in Ohio alone, there is plenty of opportunity to recreate some of your favorite memories this summer. At Environmental Design Group, we love the outdoors. That is why we care about designing with nature to create destination experiences in local communities. You can enjoy the great outdoors, and you don’t have to go far to do it! Here are some of our favorite local projects to check out this summer and escape the indoors:

Liberty Park:

Liberty Park Trail and Nature Center

If you’re the kind of person that likes options, Liberty Park is the summer destination for you. With 100 acres of recreation area, Liberty Park is a must-visit this summer. Offering activities from archery to fishing, you won’t leave feeling disappointed. The park includes an assortment of ecosystems and wildlife habitats including vast wetlands, sandstone ledges, forests and open fields. Be sure to check out the Liberty Park Nature Center for seasonal exhibits, kids activities and live native animals!

Atwood Lake Trail:

There are trails, and then, there’s the Atwood Lake Trail. Atwood Lake Park lives up to its reputation as a popular Northeast Ohio vacation destination. With more than 25 miles of shoreline, the lake, its numerous recreation facilities and cottage neighborhoods are uniquely suited for vacationing. The trail itself adds to the region’s recreation and tourism by linking the Park’s many isolated facilities and cottage areas to the larger regional trail network.

Lakewood Solstice Steps:

If you’re a sucker for a view, you won’t want to miss this. Located on the Lake Erie shoreline, Lakewood Park is home to one of the best views of our region’s greatest asset – Lake Erie! Spend a summer day biking on the multiuse path, on the playground with the kids or taking in the sunset on the Solstice Steps. The versatility of the Solstice Steps in unmatched. On any given day, you can spot the steps being used to practice yoga, read a book or simply take in a breathtaking sunset. Each experience is unique, and that’s one of our favorite aspects of the steps.

Whatever may interest you, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors! But remember, without proper stewardship of our resources, many of our favorite summertime activities would be impossible. Find out what you can do to help improve and preserve our land and water resources, so we can continue enjoying the great outdoors and making memories for generations to come.
